Heat-harden Brass?

Friday, November 21, 2008 - 8:24pm
brass | harden | heat treating I am wondering if brass can be heat-hardened. I've made a brass cuff that is a bit too flimsy, and would like to harden it without changing the surface. I've already tried tumbling with steel shot for about 5 hours, but it did not seem to harden it at all. Any suggestions/ideas? I've searched the web and ganoksin, and the answer seems to elude me. Here are some customized dog tags that I am now creating for those who want a special tag for their furry family member. I have been asked to create one for a cat that had past on, and was so loved that the owner wants to wear the tag on her neck with the cats name. New subscriber

Fabrication hydraulic | new member | press | stamping I just joined art metal and this group. I am very interested in hydraulic metal forming. I don't have a press but need/want one. How am I going to justify this to the rest of the family? Perhaps we can barter, I am a degreed metallurgist with 27 years experience is steel copper, stainless, heat treatment, failure analysis. Repousse & Chasing Chasing & repousse' | pitch My first post here. a diverse group indeed. I've searched and read the conversations about pitch alternatives. I want to ask if anyone has used a substrate such as cork, layered paper, rubber sheets, wood/composite or soft plastic to chase large works (exceeding 6 sq ft - 24 gauge). Today I received a phone call from someone who had placed an order for a ring from me a couple of weeks ago. Monday night they finally picked it up from me. This ring was made for someone as a gift, and on the inside they wanted me to engrave the name of the person and the husband with the number of years they had been married. Following the flame...
