The purpose is readily apparent to anyone who has worn rubber boots(Lacrosse, Red Ball, etc.) After a long day of working in the mud, the last thing you want to do is to bend over and try and pull those muddy things off of your feet.&lt;/p&gt;

I used an angle grinded to groove the piece (the first and only time, I have since switched to a pencil grinder - if you don&#039;t have one get one).&lt;/p&gt;
