Burnout Kiln

In a pause so I thought I'd get these up . . .finally :-)

These are of the burn out kiln.
My homemade ceramic shell process isn't up to speed yet. The first batches made weak shell.

Ceramic shell removal

Hi there!
I've got a question about removing ceramic shell from a casting. I am currently working on a piece, cast in silicon bronze, with a silica based ceramic mould/shell. I was wondering if anyone has had luck removing the shell with a vibration table or similar setup? I ask because the piece I am working on has some delicate textures I would like to preserve, and I have heard of vibration tables being used in this regard previously. Any thoughts?

Dog Sculpture Continues

Further progress on the dog sculpture. Its been raining here all week AGAIN. However, today I was off work and the rain stopped, so I got myself set up to do the casting this morning. Below are pics of the results, but first some pics of the shell application.

Bronze casting

Hello I'm new to the site. I have been sculpting and casting bronze for just over a year and am enjoying it considerably. I have put together a website in the hope of selling some of my work. I have joined this site to share my experiences and learn from others with more experience. I am UK based and am finding it very difficult to get supplies of silicon bronze. If anyone can recommend suppliers of this alloy in the UK I would be most grateful.

Ok, here is another project that I have been meaning to add to the page for quite some time. I am currently working on 4 more- all different, and some that are much more complex. It was based off of one of my sketches, but I will have to go digging for it.

Ceramic Shell Casting for Jewelry

Greetings - Has anyone here adapted ceramic shell casting to a jewelry casting environment? If so I would like to try it in lieu of investment casting. I would appreciate it if someone knowledgeable could share the formula for the ceramic slurry and the process for building up the shell/mold.

Cores for Ceramic Shell Casting

New here - hope I'm doing this right! I have a question about cores for ceramic shell casting. I teach a foundry class, so I am no newbie. Generally for hollow pieces I cut out a section or make sure the piece is designed so that the center will build up a shell and be able to dry properly. But, I am now doing some foundry work for another artist out of my studio of some small animal figures. These are a little too big to cast solid (though I can if necessary), but a little too small for a large enough opening to allow the shell to make a strong core -- soooooooo.....I have been looking into using some sort of core material.
