Forging in London

I've just moved to London and am finding it hard to find a workshop - does anyone know of any space in one? Or does anyone also have this problem? Could we join together and start a new forge? I'm really looking forward to getting back into making, having been away for the past 6 months doing other things, and I'm getting itchy!

Ongoing Work

jpjonsson.wordpress.com... there's now a blog dedicated for the work in progress, for glimpses from the studio. It'll be a chance to follow the work and how the sculptures evolve. Basically, it's an imagery where the sculptures grow out of the material. Welcome!

Who Takes a Metal Arts Class? Part i, the Master Smith

There are many reasons to take a metals class, and here at the Center for Metal Arts we find in fact that we have three or four different types of students.

The first is the professional smith, one who knows her or his skills, understands what can be done with the metals, has a technical experience base, and wants to learn better techniques and tooling. Here is where the masters classes are golden. We have hosted a cadre of professional metal artisans who build award-winning work, and there is always something new to learn from the innovative master educators, and from one another.

What I did on Spring Break!

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share what I got to do on my Spring Break (been taking classes at the College). I had the opportunity to go out to Ireland for 9 days, and spent 5 of those days with Brian at the Bregin Clarke Studio School of Metalsmithing! It was a great time! It was nice to see some of the friends I made there some years back. The Guinness was AMAZING too!

Fire, Forge and Hot Iron for Sculptors

What does blacksmithing bring to the sculptural process? Sculptor Frederic Crist returns to the Center for Metal Arts with a 2 day workshop March 20-21, 2010, to focus on use of traditional blacksmith techniques that can change up the creation and forging of sculpture. We will explore basic skills, process and tools. Form and create individual and multiple pieces, as well as investigate different assembly processes, wedging, riveting, and mortise and tenon. We will explore the use of mass and line in developing ideas and direction in sculpture.

Looking for a workshop / seminar on metal forming

I would like to spend my summer vacation learning new techniques.
With this in mind, I am looking for a workshop / seminar on metal forming.
I would like to apply the techniques on jewelry fabrication, forming both copper and silver bowls and vessels, and whatever else comes to mind.

As I posted in an earlier post, I was wondering if there were members of this community in Quebec near Gatineau. Now, I'm looking for a bigger shop to work in. So if anyone knows someone who would have spare space, would you let me know?

Possible Art show in the works

I am trying to decide if there is enough interest in a metal arts show in the central Arkansas area. It would be a juried show and there are numerous locations in the area that could host a small to VERY large event.
