Casting Aluminium in back garden. Now looking to explore/discuss all aluminium finishes.

A few years ago, through my A level DT project, I designed a piece of outdoor furniture (table/bench set). Origionally made in all wood, I'm now about to start sand casting the major structural components in aluminium.

Pewter

Any good ideas on how to do a high polish on pewter with out destroying the texture?
Here is a pewter shot glass I just finished. I would like to get the inside to be high polished. Pewter Shot Glass: Pewter Shot Glass

preserving mild steel with a clear finish

I am looking for suggestions on perserving mild steel so it will not rust, but with a clear coat finish. I use a welder to draw on sheet metal, then I use torches, grinders, and polishing wheels to creat colour and texture to the drawing. I have been using a spray of automotive clear coat to protect the finish work from rusting, but I am looking for other ideas, I am not sure how long the spray will protect the art. any suggestions appreciated

Need advice fast

Hi all, I need some advice on permalac and buffing/additional coats.

Backround:

I took a job to refinish a steel chair made by another artist out of railroad components. The steel had been ground with a swirl finish and clear coated with a clear powder coat. The chair was used outside and over the years had started rusting of course. The client contacted me to have it stripped, remove the rust and put the swirl finish back on, and have it clear coated with powder coat.

finish

Hey All!

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with using a finish on a fire screen that is rusty steel that will probably stay hot.. The clients are using it as a screen between their couch and woodburner. I was going to just use beeswax and mineral oil and leave out the lindseed oil, turpentine, and johnson's floor wax because of the smell. Do you think this would work?

Exterior clear finish

We have recently tried clear Permalac on some exterior ironwork and it seems to be holding up well. The pieces were not heavily forged, more bent and a clean wire-brushed look was what we were after.

newbie needs assistance

Hi everyone,

Soooo very glad I found your site!

I am doing a wall sculpture for an entry to the "Brainstorms" exhibit put on by the Epilepsy Foundation. It is a combination of hammered sheetmetal, copper mesh and sheeting, and heat formed plexi. I have 2 questions:
