Freestanding Fireplace Screen (front view)

This fireplace screen was custom made for a client in New Zeland. I used copper, brass, and hand forged steel to create the natural colors. Patinas were used on the cattails. The brass decorations were soldered to the steel parts.

Great Blacksmithing Book

I highly recommend this book for people who are learning blacksmithing. It has great photos, great tips, explanations, and everything makes sense. Even though I use a propane forge, not a coal forge, I will still buy this book.

CFM parameters for electric forge blower?

|

I'm building a gas forge right now, but one thing I'm not sure about is what the CFM parameters for a forge blower should be. The forge I'm making is a tube forge based on a modification of Tim Zowada's design. 12" dia. steel pipe 12" long, 1 1/4" insulation lining, refractory blanket wrapped, 3" x 4" doors at both ends. The gas and air inlet is side mounted toward the top of the cylinder. I need something I can consistently holding welding temperatures with.

Tradition-Innovation: American Masterpieces of Southern Craft

The Tradition/Innovation: American Masterpieces of Southern Craft & Traditional Art will be kicking off a nine state exhibition throughout 2010 starting with its grand opening on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the Atlanta History Center. The reason I am mentioning this is because one of my functional art pieces, "Black Electra" console table is part of the exhibition.

You can see my artist page by following this link. However, I did want to mention that the Southern Arts Federation put together a really good educational section for educators teaching the metals media. There are links to quite a few different web resources including a section on my own personal site. Here's what they are saying in part:

Rose garden fence sample flowers

| | | | |

Hi all,

Here are a few photos of a sample I just finished for some fencing around the Lincoln City Rose Garden which is getting a giant facelift. The design came from the landscape architect running the project and kind of has an art deco feel to it. The leaves and petals were cut with a plasma cutter and then forged to their final shape. I used the large ladle dish in a green-mengal B swage block to form the rose and I textured the vine by carving lines into an old hammer and using it on 1"x1/2" solid bar stock. I'll post a few picts when I start fabricating the panels.
