Trouble with tig welding small Everdur bronze piece to larger bronze.

Hi, I am an inexperienced tig welder trying to weld a small ear to a larger horse body- the body is about 12" high, and pretty thick- close to 1/4" thick walls.(cast). The ear is about 1/4 x 1/2". The ear just melts into a blob, and the stub on the main body just plops.

Questions related to a tree sculpture

I am going to create a large scale sculpture of a stylized tree (about 5-7 meters high) but have no experience of working with metal. The tree will be placed outdoors. Do you have some suggestions as to what the most ecologically friendly and robust material for this might be (aluminium, steel?), and then from there, how I should connect them together?

Help needed

A few days ago I was at the dumpster and spotted a Lincoln AC/DC 225/125 arc welder that had been tossed. From the visible damage, the thing appeared to have fallen off a truck speeding down the highway. The case was split, dented and mashed, panels torn completely loose, knobs missing, etc. The leads had been cut off as well. Still, I figured it might be useful for parts so I dragged it home.

Beginning sculptor needs some advice re: choosing materials/fabricating

I'm going to be creating a 5' tall metal sculpture. I want to create it out of small (~1" or a bit smaller diameter) disks, or washers, or whatever I can find cheaply and in bulk. This sculpture just needs to support its own weight, so doesn't have to be super strong.

Good ways to clean slag?

I am planing on making a bunch of these little stick figures from nails and washers (and any thing else that I may find.) I am still practising my welding technique. These are stick welded with 1/16" E6013 on an AC welder. So with time the welds should start to look better. However I need to figure out some better ways to clean up the figures before coating them. I plan on a light coat of WD40 rubbed in for now. I may also paint some of them. So far I just chip at them with a chisel and wire brush.
