A pair candle sticks

This is a set of candle stick I did today. They are about 15" tall and the cup is forged from a piece of iron pipe. They were fun and a nice distraction from the paying projects.

I'm really pleased with myself, they are hung locally and I smile every time I see them. My best bit is the symetry of the main stem. Ive only been doing metalwwork for about a year now having given up nursing to be more creative. Not bad for Middle aged nurse! The customer was really pleased. Shame about the mesh though I think they looked better without, but I suppose you have to compromise when someone else is paying. I'm so pleased I took the leap, different type of mid life crisis eh!

He reckons it just happened and that any resemblence to any part of the female anatomy was enrirely co-incidence!! It appears that the sides and the end have folded in onto themselves, we opened the top fold up to reveal a cup shape with a slit at the bottom. The colour was achieved with a brass wire brush on hot metal. Now we need to see if we can do it again! Anyone know any good erotic art dealers/galleies in the uk! Will also post another pic

Cobweb gate

Just finished for a Wiltshire Wildlife Exibition in July. The gate is steel, as is the web and the ivy. Old copper water tanks made up the spider and ivy leaves, scrap cable for the legs. My favourite bit is the long tapered vine with a bluebell on the end, (Artistic licence!) Will be mounted on reclaimed oak fence posts. Really dont want to paint or galv it. Is there a laquer suitable for steel fo outside, I cant see anyone oiling it regularly.

HENRY CLAY FRICK BALCONY

In 1991 my friend, the Philadelphia Classical Architect, Alvin Holm came to me with a proposal to build a 4 ft by 12 ft long balcony for his client, Dr Henry Clay Frick of Alpine, New Jersey. Dr Frick loves birds and also wanted a feeder attached to the railing of the balcony so that he could feed them at his leisure. Dr Frick is the third in his legendary family with the same name since he is the grandson of the original partner of Andrew Carnegie and, with his wife now hosts the celebrated Frick Museum on 5th Avenue in New York City. The house was designed in the Classical Style and the balcony was to be of "wrought iron" using the French Classic Style as a guide. We made a lot of sketches and finally came up with the design that you see installed here. The framework is of 4" standard steel channel, made in pieces, completely assembled in our shop, pre-finished and then dismantled and shipped to the site for installation. The consoles that support the balcony are cast aluminum and weigh about 40 pounds each. The railing is completely made of forged steel elements welded into panels that would be reasonably easy to install. I even made a complete illustrated set of installation instructions in my computer CADD program. Since the TURNER CONSTRUCTION CO. was building the house, we had to allow them to do the installation. It has the bird feeder on the left return rail. The owners loved their new balcony so much that they directed their landscaper to hire me to build a terrace railing to match the balcony. INNOCENTI AND WEIBEL of Long Island, NY was the landscape contractor.
