Rowing the Atlantic

I am planning to row the Atlantic solo in 2013.
I want to fund the row myself and use the 3000nm trip to raise money for fresh water wells in countries where the need is desperate.
The only way I can raise the 100k needed for such an adventure is to do what I do best ...make metalwork.

Brewer Stair Railing

Here are a couple of pictures of a stair rail that was installed today. This was the first curved rail that I have done. Lots of learning there. The home owners are happy with the results and that works for me. The center flower and leaves have guilders paste applied over the paint. The panels are from King Metals.

Railing Sample,rectangular tubing

This is a sample for a current railing job I'm working on.
Years ago I fantasized that this 1" x 2" rectangular tubing might indeed collapse the way you see in this image ,if brought to heat in the forge and pulled around a scroll jig.My reasoning was based on the assumption that, all things being equal and the heat even throughout, there would still remain some structural integrity at the corners of the tubing that would hold the rectangular cross section while the broad flat faces all collapse in and the edge faces bulge out. This gives a lovely ,almost ORGANIC aesthetic to the scroll which is quite tactile and simply begs to be gripped.
