Anyone used fiberglass mold to cast their wax model?

Is it possible to use a fiberglass mold to pour a wax? If not I suppose I'll have to pour a fiberglass model to make another mold from. Any suggestions or experience out there?

The pattern was carved from wood. The mold was made with greensand. We have made swords up to 4ft long.
Here is the sand casting process of another item I was casting. http://www.foundry101.com/new_page_7.htm

casting in iron, copper, and brass

Hello. I just joined the site. Its great to know something like this exists. I have been researching cast iron jewelry for its oxidized look.. ie the black metal look. I am also looking to experiment with different metals in my jewelry like brass and copper for the different patinas and colors that they can produce. I was wondering if anyone out there casts in iron and/or brass, copper, or bronze. I have waxes of my jewelry that I would like to produce in these metals.

Casting Question

Here are the question guys. I love the loss wax process!! But sometimes I think outside of the box. So far out of the box I can't find the answers online anywhere! In my last creation I used little dried star fish in a ring. Real live ones, well alive at one point anyways. The project was a success! :) Now I'm wondering if it would be possible to burn out leather and if so at what temperature?

Casting stainless steel ???

I would love some feedback from those of you with experience casting stainless steel. I have been involved with casting aluminum, bronze and iron for several years but have never attempted SS. I was recently given @ 350 lbs of 316 SS fasteners which I want to melt and cast. I have constructed a coke-fired cupolette-style furnace w/ a 300lb capacity and barring any oversight, intend to melt in it. Im not certain what to expect when the 316 is melted. Im am certain that some factors will have to be weighed and ask your help pinpointing them.

90% Copper 10% Tin Bronze source?

Hey all,

I'm trying to get ahold of straight 90/10 CuSn Bronze for some bronze age tools and experiments. C90700 Phosphur Bronze is about as close as I can come to it with a commercially available product. I was thinking of simply smelting my own, but the cost of copper is just insane right now. $7.67 per pound for copper is just nuts.

Help with casting...I think?

I am very new here and looking for some help. My background is in ceramics. I have only taken two classes in metal art. I would love any help with this. How do mass produce a metal version of an object made out of clay and what is the best metal to use if the object will be outside?
