Firsts Steps in a New Life

| | | | | |

My first day on the ArtMetal network!

My name is Angela. I am a resident of Salt Lake City, Utah. And I have been an artist... pretty much from the moment I picked up a pencil.

But I wasn't interested in just any form of art. You see... I liked to create. When I sat down to draw... I didn't draw what existed around me already. That was boring! Why would I want to spend hours drawing a tree... when I could go outside and see trees all the time? Why spend time coloring rainbows and flowers and bunnies when I could flip on the TV and see those, or go tromp around my moms flower bed.

TIG welder purchase advice

| |

I'm finally ready to add a TIG welder to the studio. I have a small MIG welder (Millermatic 135) and a couple of buzz-box stick welders (Lincoln AC and Wards AC/DC). I do stainless with the MIG, and when I looked into adding aluminum capability (new liner or reel-gun) I decided I may as well get a new machine.

I don't even have a flush toilet, what the h*** am I doing with a blog?

After ten years of raft guiding on the best whitewater in the east I realized I needed to get a job. While I still raft guide, I am expanding my metal working abilities into the realm of art. I used to work at a shop rebuilding underground coal mining equipment, but that job sucked.

Welder Sculptor Gonnabee in Phoenix

Welding | |

Hello, my name is Crosby! and I’m a metal sculptor gonnabee in Phoenix, Arizona. Been thinking about it for a while and, thanks to the generous help of His Lordship Kevin*, I'm finally taking actions toward learning to weld something besides coupons. Nothing to show yet as I'm just learning to light the very new to me oxyacetylene torch and will be dusting off my small MIG shortly, too.

A new toy....I mean tool

Went down to the Miller store and got myself a brand new syncro 200 tig. Been learning how for the past couple of days now. Sure if different from mig. Lots slower but a lot less clean up after. Been working with stainless so I am hoping this will be better all around.

Working with nails?

| | | |

I have a great idea for a sculpture made out of nails. I am new to working with metals and welders, so I am unsure as to what would be the best type of welder for such a job. The project will take many small welds that will connect nails that range in size from 1 inch to 8 inch. Any help is greatly appreciated.
