Dianna's Disc Vase

This is my latest internet commission, headed for Rochester,New York. The client saw a smaller disc vase I had posted and asked if I could make the same sort of thing but in a 10 inch diameter.

Technique:

This is (I think)one of my more successful designs. The disc vase itself is not welded to the base but is held firmly in it's cradle by the weight of the water within it. The allows the vase to be rotated to a more rakish angle (as in this photo) depending on what plant material is chosen.

This stainless cold formed vase has a heavy interior "frog" which keeps large stems held vertical.

As with my other disc vases, the body of the vessel is not welded to the base allowing one to rotate it for a more aesthetic position, providing the stems are not top heavy...
Welded, hammered stainless steel, cold formed with 20 ton frame press.

Minoan Disc Vase 2

Another large vertical disc vase named "Minoan" primarily because of the patina coloration more than anything else.
I was trying to simulate ancient bronze but the piece is in welded stainless steel.

This is a rather large stainless steel disc vase,(24"diameter) with a true acid patina and forged stainless scroll feet that are patinated as well.
As a child traveling with my family across Greece to many of the archaeological sites, I was very affected by the decorative styles on Crete.
