Yet another n00b looking for help

| | |

I ran across this site while doing a google search on how to join steel with copper. I'm VERY new to metal working - in fact I'm still experimenting. I make chain mail (chainmaille if you like it spelled that way) and a friend gave me an assortment of copper wire scraps. Some of the stuff he gave me was far too heavy (10ga) for use in anything I make, so I got to playing around and made a copper ring by flattening the wire (okay, bashing the living crap out of it) with a hammer and making it roughly ring shaped over a broom handle (only the HIGH tech tools used here). NEAT STUFF! Every night, I'd think of something new to try, including using some steel wire (16ga) that I found here in what was my dad's studio. This is why I have some questions...

Sites to sell sculpture.

| | | | | |

Hi! I;m new to this site but would love it if someone could please help me? Would anyone be able to suggest at least five sites they think are pretty good sites to post pieces for sale on? Please let me know if anyone is willing to help.

My first commission.

| |

Here is my first commission. I had some of my work displayed at a garage sale My wife was having. It sparked some interest and two people asked me about making stuff for them. This one actually worked out and I made this steel cut out for her. She breeds Doberman Pinscher's. She is going to have a friend air brush it. It is then going to end up donated to an organization that helps Doberman's who need medical attention the owners can't afford.

Toughest Project Yet

| |

Hi all, thought I'd post a project from a bit earlier this summer which ended up being the toughest project I've worked on yet. Although I've never done a curved railing before, it was the logistics of the project that made it so difficult. First off, I came in late on the project, the steel worker on the job wasn't able to fabricate it, so I wasn't involved with the design process and all I had to go off of for a set of plans was a couple of photos from a magazine. At this point the rail had to be fabricated on site, had i been involved with the project from the get go, i think we could have figured out a way to build it in the shop and then crane it up, but it was too late for that. Second, the project was already 6weeks behind and the clients were living in a motel room bc their previous house had sold and they were chomping at the bit to move in. The job site was in one of the Penthouse Condos on top of a 14 story building requiring two elevators to get up to the site, one to the 12th floor and then another very small elevator(or stairway) to the 14th floor. This second elevator was too small for 8' materials and as slow as you can imagine, 30 feet per minute which seems like an eternity in a small stuffy box.
