The art of dance

The art of dance

This is a table top sculpture I have enjoyed working on. The mild steel is about 24" tall and has a painted finish. I am now working on a pair that are 7' tall and love how they are coming out.

Hope you enjoy.....

North Carolina Veteran's Park Sculpture

North Carolina Veteran's Park Sculpture

This is one of 7 seven sculptures that are installed at the new North Carolina Veteran's Park in Fayetteville, NC. Each of the selected six sculptors were given a word that related back to military life and service. These words were then interpreted by each sculptor into representative forms through sculpture. Each sculpture had to contain used military items and artifacts but not directly used in its original, identifiable form. My word was "Courage" - I defined "Courage" by the saving of a fellow warrior in battle... by going back into the battle to retrieve a wounded soldier and bring Her/Him to safety - Leave No-one behind. The two outer triangles represent the two soldiers that are carrying the wounded soldier... the center triangle, back to safety. At the top of each triangle is a piece of hand-colored, fused glass. Contained within the glass are images of the medals of honor, as well as, the purple heart, which is embedded into the center triangles red glass. Inside the "body" of each triangle (soldier), are woven, the military items that I chose to embody each warrior... Military truck grates, truck hoods, brackets, wheel rims, brake plates - strong, enduring items. This was my description - there are many acts of courage and this happens to be my description of Courage. This was a very exciting and personal sculpture for me... It was wonderful to have been chosen to work on this project.

Not Quite Cinderella's

Not Quite Cinderella's

Admittedly, I had to temporarily appropriate my significant other's high heel to use as the model for this piece (and yes, I returned it without grinding or welding burns)

Molten Relic

Molten Relic

This found object sculpture was inspired by a mountaineer's ice axe, the "head" is a sickle bar mower guard that is "lashed" to the bar with some cable. I welded the cable to the bar and then texturized the hex shaft with what looks somewhat like metal candle wax.

This is my first post to ArtMetal, I hope that you all like it!

"Crucible" is a found object assemblage sculpture that stands about 8" tall.

Slipper Tree

| | | | | |

This sculpture began with an odd piece of Maple firewood. The bark is crudely removed. The feet are (recycled)springs from an early snowmobile. They will be dress up to match the organic theme. They provide much movement and yet are stable. The plant is made from mild sheet steel(.032"). The leaves are stretched into a stump with a three pound sledge. I shrunk the edges back to a consistent line with a one pounder.Hit placement was my priority , and using the fewest hits. The leaves aren't typical orchid structures, but it was consistent with my "pick what I like and use that" theme.
