A few years ago, through my A level DT project, I designed a piece of outdoor furniture (table/bench set). Origionally made in all wood, I'm now about to start sand casting the major structural components in aluminium.

I am looking for suggestions on perserving mild steel so it will not rust, but with a clear coat finish. I use a welder to draw on sheet metal, then I use torches, grinders, and polishing wheels to creat colour and texture to the drawing. I have been using a spray of automotive clear coat to protect the finish work from rusting, but I am looking for other ideas, I am not sure how long the spray will protect the art. any suggestions appreciated

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with using a finish on a fire screen that is rusty steel that will probably stay hot.. The clients are using it as a screen between their couch and woodburner. I was going to just use beeswax and mineral oil and leave out the lindseed oil, turpentine,and johnson's floor wax because of the smell. Do you think this would work?
