Just another bird

| | |

I made this bird a few weeks back and finally got a chance to take some pictures. Not the best pictures, but at least I have some of it now. My attempt at a Great Blue Heron.
Made from 32 ounce copper, weighs about 55 pounds, wingspan is 60 inches and 39 inches to the top of the head.

Dead Bird

|

I found a dead Finch on the ground today; pick it up and studied it. I pulled open the wings and saw how the flight feathers were shaped with the quill off to one side. The tail feathers were similar. The down feathers seem to create a volume that defines where the body feathers rest. It makes sense to me now, how the shape is maintained.I placed the bird in the woods away from the house, sad but grateful.

Trickster with lots more feathers

Trickster has lots more feathers, just a few to go. I need to think about a stand. He's supposed to be just about to light.

Trickster with More Feathers

Sorry about the picture quality. I have applied most of the body feathers. Some of the wing feathers are on.
