Brass Panel Fitup

| | |

Hi all, I fit up the brass panels the other day and thought I'd post some picts. I've still got a little more to fabricate, but a window opened up where I could go up to the the altar so I went and installed the hinges. The chapel is run by cloistered nuns, which never leave, and there are only certain times that regular people can go up to the altar. The nuns are very sweet, but it's pretty intense to be around people so dedicated. I'll be sure to post picts when they are finished. On a side note, is there a pickle to remove the discoloration around the welds without turning the area to copper? The pickle we've been using seems to turn certain areas around the weld, but not the weld itself, a copper color. Some of the spaces are kind of difficult to get the buffing wheel in. Brass polishing question

|

Hi all, I've started my brass church panel project and am not sure if I'm polishing the brass correctly. I'm using Brown(Tripoli) buffing compound on a spiral sewn wheel on my bench grinder. I then move to a looser buffing wheel with the white compound. For both process I briefly touch the stick to the wheel and then polish out about 6-9 inched of bar stock then touch the stick to the wheel again and move on. For the most part the pieces have turned out pretty good, but I've been getting this streaking of the compound or something on the brass. On the Tripoli wheel the streaks take on a copper like tint. When I'm finished polishing I wipe these streaks off with a soft t-shirt rag, but at times it takes some effort and I end up putting marks on the brass. I tried using MEK, which sort of worked, but in places it turned the brass cloudy. Any idea what is going on? How to stop it? Or how to remove it without scratching the brass? I've posted picts of what the streaks look like and the tripoli wheel.

Hi, fellow metal artists. I am working on a coffee table design which will consist of stainless steel and brass and I am trying to improve my stainless steel polishing techniques. I am still trying to get a mirror finish but scratching is a problem I am trying to overcome.

Copper and Brass Pickle -

| | | |

I am looking for a good copper and brass pickle. Is Sparex good? Or is it better to use Sulfuric acid and water? I have the articla by bu Bill Seely. He says to use a basic sulfuric acid solution prio to using hs formulas. %5 to %10. I assume that means a solution of 5 to 10 percent sulfuric acid and water. Is that correct? Is that the best pickle? or is there a better and safer method?
