Krik noticed dark shapes off the starboard bow and ran up to the railing to peer off in the distance. "Hey everybody!" he exclaimed, "c'mon over here and see all the big fish out there. Wow! whadda sight. Anybody got a fishin' pole?" Queleena, who had more than a passing familiarity with the phenomenon being observed, suggested to Krik "Maybe it wouldn't be a good idea to stand there. Those are whales, my friend, and when they are playing like that, they do not like people looking at them." "Aw, whadda they care, they're only fish."
Without warning, a large male whale came up to the side of the ferry, looked straight at Krik , then spit in his eye."

Krik reeled back from the force of the insult, and stumbled over the lines and other gear strewn about the deck. Arms flailing, he slipped on the puddle of whale spit and fell overboard into the welcoming arms of the Pacific.
