Okay, so now you've got your tools, your solder cut into snippets, and two pieces of metal to be joined. The pieces fit together without gaps, and they are clean. Now we're ready to set up the soldering job and join the pieces. There are a number of variations that boil down to a matter of personal preference. I will present the "typical" way I would do something, then present some alternatives.

There are a few basic soldering techniques used by many jewelers. These techniques will cover many of the soldering jobs encountered in most pieces of work.
