This slide lecture was first presented at the University of North Carolina at Asheville during the 1998 ABANA conference in conjunction with the exhibition of forged metal work from areas south of the Sahara Desert in Africa. A hard copy catalogue of the exhibit can be obtained for your personal collection.
"I am indebted to the anthropologists, historians, and archaeologists whose research and subsequent publications have made information on metal work in Africa accessible to me. Sharing the life and work of the blacksmith in this presentation would have been impossible were it not for their thorough field work and continuous inquiry". - Tom Joyce
