an educational resource for the metal arts

ArtMetal was founded to document and archive the heritage of various metalworking traditions so as to prevent the loss of current and ancient techniques that are beneficial to the understanding and appreciation of the metal arts. ArtMetal also provides an environment consisting of forums, chats, and centers where artisans, academics, art lovers, and the general public can experience and share this outstanding medium within a community environment. At ArtMetal, collaboration of craftspeople from all metal disciplines creates an exciting environment for innovative self-expression and discovery.

If you are interested in learning more about how to work with metal, visit the TOC and find our resources to metalworking. This resource includes information on materials, processes, finishes, and design. But before you go there, please read me first.

For those of you who are interested in experiencing artwork produced by a broad range of metalsmiths working in a variety of media, you shouldn't miss visiting the ArtMetal Village at the site, or drop by the ArtMetal Virtual Gallery and view featured exhibitions from around the globe. We also have an exchange program with other metalsmithing organizations who have participated in this project.

Last, but not least, the ArtMetal Features section includes special stories, graphics, movies and sounds that will give you a new perspective on this ancient craft which continues to bring fresh and provocative innovations to the metalworking craft. The current issue is located at the site and previous issues are archived here at our edu site.
