There are quite a few web contacting sculptor's on the Artmetal Sandbox and Artmetal.com lists and this will be the second time it has been held.
Many of them know each other via the email and share pictures, questions and comments on their endeavors on a regular basis. It is open to all and has become very much a family sort of community spread world wide.

This year the Sculptor's Shindig 2006 will be held in Woodstock, CT at the studio on the grounds of the home of Bruce and Charlene Fink and will be attended by many of his family as well. All his 3 kids are also artists in their own rights. The homemade home and studio is located on a dead end dirt road in the woods where he has lived since 1968 and includes in many crude but functional ways the equipment to fabricate, cut, bend, roll, weld via MAPP/Oxy gas , AC / DC/ synchrowave heli-arc, Plasma cut, hammer, beat, conjoul, many metals as well as a complete foundry system set up for bronze and aluminum casting done mostly in plaster based investments and with a kiln to burnout and prepare the lost wax or sand mold castings. It is a one man arranged studio so usually only functions in a few of the media at one time so outdoor studio space will be used for much of this Shindig. In the foundry area he normally pours up to 300 lb. bronze per melt so works in sizes from several feet high to several stories and sells internationally.

The entire Shindig is composed of many with extensive backgrounds getting together to share their experiences and trade personal media systems oft not found in any books of professionally.

An old CHAT pertaining to the artists foundry/studio along with many photos of the studio taken several years back, can still be found on the web at:

and also at a very outdated web site at

sculptor's shindig virgin

I'm thinking about driving to the shindig. I'm way down in Houston though. Would like to know from those that have gone before what the event is like.
Also, anyone from this side of the universe driving?

Judi Ronkartz and I will be arriving at Bradley 4:08PM
thursday if anyone would like to share rent car expenses. We don't plan any side trips except Shindig spontaneous tour to Wray Schelin's or? We just need to get from and to the airport not have a rent car all the time...

Go!

Hi Pammy,
I am not driving, so I cannot help you out there, but it is going to be a wonderful experience. Last year we had it up in Wisconsin at Rich Fizzell's place. It is a great combination of learning and meeting new people who all share your same interests. I got to try out new techniques and materials, received direct advice, and, mainly, just had an absolute blast with wonderful people and rejuiced my creative energies. I highly recommend it.

I'd say it's like a family

I'd say it's like a family reunion, with toys. The mail list is great, but this is just so much better - like comparing 2D to 3D.

Here are the URLs for some of the photo's taken last year.
Heath has pics up at:

...and Alex has her's up at:

I don't know who might be driving from down your way.

I'm not a visitor!

I had logged out, come back to the computer and posted that reply. Live and (hopefully) learn....

You know Dick, you don't have to log out. If you don't, then you don't have to worry about ever logging in again. You should automatically get in without any hassles.

On pictures of the 2005 Shindig at Rich's place. You can do a search in Flickr for "artmetal shindig" or go to the ArtMetal Radio Flickr site and view a slide show.

Oh, and you're right about the diffs between the sandbox and here! I like seeing the folks I am talking to...

a way to convert the VHS tape

Eric, I do not have a way to convert the VHS tape format to digital so there is no way I can post the video. If you can send me a dvd with the video on it, I'll be happy to convert them to web movies and post them.

Driving from Texas

There are four I know of flying from Dallas, and one that is also driving from there.
He is going one way though and not back until next winter. Lives both north and south. Not sure what day he plans to leave. He does it twice a year though and feels he has found the best route by now.
