Hi Rick, I don`t know if

Hi Rick,
I don`t know if you`ll believe this, but I`ve beeen pounding on how I`d propose a proyect to some people. The concept is just that: a fountain with some organic form, preferible a blossom or a leafy bud from which water pours out. Channeling the water through leaves harmonically is a good part of the challenge, specially if the fountain has a a whole bunch of leaves. I do love your design, and would definetely look great on SS or copper. Man you`re doing pretty well with your drawings.!Nelson.

Thanks Nelson I have thought

Thanks Nelson

I have thought out some of the design ideas and how to pull them off. To me a great part of the accomplishment is how are you going to make it work. I do love to tinker.

Since this design was based on SteelyJan's dream, I could not continue without her permission.

I hope you understand,

Rick,
It`s ok, I was just commenting and admiring your design. Hope that whether for you, Janet.or both, the dream comes true as great fountains! Nelson.

Jan has given the OK if you

Janet has given the OK if you want to use the design. I can help work out the technical details if you wish. I'm going to be off for the at least the next 4 weeks according the the doc.

Fountain parts

Few years back I had a client that wanted a fountain. The base or bowl was going to be 14 ft diameter and seven individual nozzles. Any how they wanted it to be special by having the water dance to the (organ) music or conversations around the fountain. I did a bunch of fountain research and man I was surprised of all of the things that you can do with water. They actually sold this type of thing and all you had to do is install, lights, nozzles, solenoids, software, pump and such. Oh well they decided that it was too expensive of a toy for right now, still on hold. Ah heck here is the drawing. It was to be "Seven stars and seven trumpets".

That would make an awesome fountain.

No

Rick,
No, I did this in Rhino. It was my first and last use of it. Way too much learning for me. I was lucky that my son in law is good at CAD programs and helped me a lot. So much went into using the Rhino program, I had all of the materials figured into and everything, massive file. Imported some plug-ins for the textures.

Jake and all thanks. I too wish that it would of came about. It would of been one heck of a fun project to do. The situation on the fountain was that it was for a church. They were going to lease one corner of their lot for a cell phone tower and the money from the tower was for the fountain. Anyhow got tied up in zoning for three years and they ended up putting the tower some other place. Still told maybe someday.

The whole project was a lot of wasted time but a big learning curve. The client came to me and said make us a fountain. Yeah sure and what do you want it to look like? It came down to have something religious but not a religious icon and they wanted it to be really special. Well after about 15 different pencil sketch concepts I came up with this.
The concept came from some verses in the Bible from Revelations. No I am not a real religious person but sometimes you have to do some extra research for the customer.
Reading through Revelations I came upon a verse that was talking about the sun being in an eclipse. So the bowl is suppose to look like an eclipse. The bowl bottom area in the picture would be in the ground. The bowl was to be made of 1/4 and 1/8 copper sheet and lots of heavy texture.
Reading further I read a passage that seven trumpets were playing blah blah blah. Therefore the seven trumpets and they were to be formed from brass. Furthering reading was seven stars rose from the hand and dance around as angels blah, blah, blah.
So the stars were going to be copper and they were permitted to side on the rod about a foot back and forth when the water hit them.
I did some prior search on fountains so putting the dancing water to music seemed special.
My end would of been $140K which included the fountain nozzles and valves, material and making the fountain, and transporting to the site. The client was going to do all of the foundation work, the electrical, plumbing, air compressor (it not only had electric solenoids but also air valves to give different spurts of water) and computer controller.
Would of been a great pay day for me. Oh well life lives on.

Rick, I hope you do not feel like I hijacked your post? I have lived with this concept for too many years and time to let it off of my chest.

His Warren, I was about to

His Warren, I was about to ask you what inspired your work, and as read down, well, you more that answered in advance.Excellent fountain concept! You know it reminded me of a project still wandering in my mind... here we have a Spanish saying: "I`ve got a roll of that twine", hey I hope that comes true for you, and could be when you least expect it! Sorry, Rich, I`m not hijacking your post either. Thank you and thanks to Janet too. nelson.

Warren

I don't feel at all that you jacked the thread. I enjoy seeing what other people are doing. We start a conversation and everyone joins in and ideas flow and the subject of attention becomes fluid. I is exciting to see where it leads.

Hi Warren, I love hearing

Hi Warren, I love hearing how designs go from "We would like a cool looking fountain" to a full fledged design involving elements with symbolism relating to the client, purpose, what have you. That's one of the main differences between a good design and a great design in my opinion. Keep this one handy, both the basic concept and the final design are really good, not to mention how nice $140K would feel in your pocket. :)

Wow...Warren!

I just skimmed through Atlantic Fountains and it's amazing!!
More fuel for the fire....I have to work out a few things first and then I'd like to find someone who could work it up on a CAD Program....Thanks for the link...SteelyJan
