WORLD TRIAD...

This is the symbol of the World Triad...it's very closely related to the yin and yang. It's origin is oriental, and it's also understood as the symbol of eternity. There is more to it, but that sums it up...

I love the spirals, which symbolize cycles...

Cheers!

Glad you could identify it

Glad you could identify it Jamie! I looked on Google and found the following:

WORLD TRIAD: Originally an oriental symbol, it was "adopted by western Gnostics as an emblem of cosmic creativity, the threefold nature of reality or fate, and the eternally spiraling cycles of time... In Japan it was maga-tama or mitsu tomoe, the world soul.... In Bhutan and Tibet, it is still known as the Cosmic Mandal, a sign of the Trimurti." Like the yin yang, it also represents eternity.

Ancient symbol

Very similar to the celtic triskel. Amazing how different cultures going back thousands of years have very similar symbology. I wonder where it actually origonated from. Last year we made a door knocker as an immigration gift for someone going to new zealand. After research, the similarity to celtic shapes and especially spirals surpised me. What is it about spirals? Obviously 3 and the curves in the same direction are very powerful also. My favourite image is the running hare triskel, found all over England and Ireland dating back for centuries. Wonderful stuff

I have spent some time

I have spent some time traveling around Ireland, and of course taking a great interest in symbols of the ancients and found that YES! some of the symbols recorded in stone LITTERALLY! are common with other cultures around the world. We must remember that back before religion etc. etc. the people of that time studied the land, the stars, and the weather. They didn't communicate through words-they created art, and drew on Cave walls, and stones. Ireland is filled with lots of symbolism. My favorites are the Triple spiral-spirals in general, and the Triquetra.

Yes!, word for word what you

Yes, QuiQue word for word what you posted comes from one of my books on symbolism titled: The Woman's Dictionary of Symbols and Sacred Objects, by Barbara G. Walker. It's a great book on symbolism, and she has arranged another good one titled: The Woman's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets.

Check them out sometime if your interested in that sort of thing.

Cheers!
