I like the tree design, but

I like the tree design, but as others have said, I would do a bolt down. Here is a pic of a couple of table bases I did a year or so back. There is a lot of texture on the "wood" base to emulate the bark on the table top.Curly maple table baseCurly maple table base

Using small sections of pipe and forging out flares to fit can give a very realistic look. Congratulations and good luck.

Tree fixing

Thanks Rick,
I'm definitely going to take the advice and bolt it down one way or another.
Like the table. i did a similar one a while ago. Mine had conventional forged scroll legs, but I love just using a slab of timber with the bark still on the bottom so people can see where it came from !

Continental measuring

By the way - sorry bout the metric units.
I was taught that way at school, then my last employers just about broke me of the habit being good victorian types.
But when I started talking feet and inches to the client they came over all glassy eyed and bewildered.

No problem Will. I can do

No problem Will. I can do metric, as long as I have my trusty wooden ruler handy.

On that table, I would have liked to put the bark side up. It looked a lot like an alligator. Then a glass top over it. That would have the best. But it wasn't mine to do with, so I followed the directions.
