Art with a bang

Please take a look at the next few posts (2.3,&4)for close ups of the pattern welding - haven't worked out how to put multiple images on one post yet!
Made this last year. Haven't blown it up yet.

Nice Piece

Hi Will,
I know absolutely nothing about guns, but I can still appreciate a hand made weapon. Its beautiful. Did you make this from scratch?I bet its a hoot to shoot.

Pistol

Thanks - This was probably the biggest labour of love I've ever got into.. woodworks from an apple branch from the garden, Barrel and lock plate are pattern welded recycled wrought iron/steel. Trigger guard's welded cable, and the hammer's rasp/mild steel pattern welded.
I did use the internal bits from a lock kit, but otherwise pretty much from scratch - even rifled the barrel.
I'd be a hungry man if I was relying on it to put food on the table, but it'll hit a reasonable sized barn door at 25yards!

Great Work

That is beautiful, man. What a work of art. I like this a whole lot. Made one of these from a kit with my son the winter before he was going to turn 11. Then gave it to him for his birthday in the spring of that year. But that is a kit gun, no matter what it has in the way of memories. This is great.

Thank you so much - wish we still had such a healthy attitude to shooting in this country as you guys in North America..I think that musta been a fine present for a boy. Most people over here would be horrified!
I had to jump through hoops to get Firearms licence - and I am only legally allowed to shoot the thing in a government approved shooting range!...but as a result I have met some nice people, and gotten into cowboy action shooting - so it's not all bad.
