A River DamnedI am looking for any thoughts on this piece. Good, bad, or indifferent. It is called "A River Damned" it is a metal sculpture, and all of the color and texture are created by heating and welding techniques. It, simply put, depicts the beauty and destructive consequences of damming our rivers. It is approx. 30" x 20". It is a simple piece and really quite beautifull. It has a lot of brilliant purple and blue brought out by the heat. I would love to hear your thoughts on it...

Hi Tom: I did post a comment

Hi Tom: I did post a comment but don`t know what happened. anyway,I like your sculpture from the chain down.Is that the right position? I`d give it a 90 degree turn so to get that female shape I can visualize. There is something about the chain I don`t quite like. The concept is perfectly clear, but I don`t know about the chain, seems too blunt. Hey you know art is very subjective! The wavy flow of that blue and purple portion I like a lot. Did you get those tones by simply heating? Hope I`m not harsh on your work. Wish you well. Nelson.

I love critics

I always appreciate critisizm, good, bad, or indifferent it is as much a part of the art as the subject. I hold true to the idea that art is not art untill someone loves or hates it. To answer your question the purple and blue were created by heating and quenching. And I do agree that the chain is rather obvious, but I was trying to represent something completely out of its element (like a man made dam) I wanted it to appear bold, ugly, and out of place. Apparently I have acheived that based on the feedback. As far as the positioning goes the flat part of the sculpture is, in my eyes, the bottom. It is flat because I have it sitting on a base. The picture shold be repostioned.

I like the chain.....

Hi Tom,
I , on the other hand like the use of the chain. it's an interesting piece. Someone else also posted that perhaps the chain should continue down. It stops the flow of the piece.
I have used chains alot in previous works and I like what can be done with them. Keep working and enjoy, Hope you will post more work soon. Janet R.
