Wicked Dragon!

Warren,
Wow! Your dragon is wicked, I mean beautiful! That's the best full 3-D dragon that I've seen. Your technique is beyond my present-level ability or comprehension, and your artistry is awe-inspiring. I'm inspired! What are the dimensions? Please give me some pointers... how did you go about forming and finishing your dragon. Email me if you wish!
J.R.

City, What do you think? You ever find that Texas dragon?

warren's picture

Little bit of everything

JR,
Thanks for the comments, it was a lot of fun to make. It is about 26 in wide and around 18 in high. It was formed in sheet metal sections and welded together. Legs, arms and body are hollow. I used the torch to build up the scales on the back and made a pattern by moving around the molten metal. The little parts were all built up with steel rod with the torch and some grinding and filing.

Splendid

what a beaut, mate!
(Just kiddin. I'm from U.S, not australia)
My fave subject is dragons (And pokemon). That drgaon is splendid, it looks like some kind of Chinese Lung! How many have you made? If you get even better, you should start a dragon-selling buisiness! My mum says that when I get really good at beading and a bit older (Im 9), we can start a beading buisiness.

That is a very nice dragon.

That is a very nice dragon. I have been looking into getting a custom dragon with my name across the top in old english font lettering. I've always wanted some really nice custom metal art with a dragon and my name.

By the way, I have found

By the way, I have found someone to design and create my custom metal art dragon. http://www.torchcraft.com What do you all think about it?

warren's picture

Not sure

Not sure what to say, if that is the kind of pieces that you are interested good for you. I think the last word in the title of the site explains the type of metal work they do. I myself like 3D sculptures that have more flow and texture.

Good work, lots of attention to detail.

Good work, lots of attention to detail. What guage sheet metal did you use, mild steel or stainless, are the teeth welded in, or cut from the sheet? Is the neck ridge brazing rod? Warren, you do fine work.!

Ya woke up the dragon

Oye! To the nine year old that likes beads and woke up the dragon that was posted a year ago. This is the only dragon that I have made so far. I have plans to make more in the future but it may be a while.

To all of the comments thank you very much. This piece was probably made four or five years ago for my daughter and her husband for a Christmas present.

Fred, yes all welded using O/A torch.

Rick, I am not sure what gage of sheet metal, probably 18 ga or 16 ga. The teeth were welded by piling up the bead and then shaped using a cut off wheel on my flex shaft. The ridge along the back is separate little pieces of brass and brazed in place.

The coloring was just left from welding and wire brushed. I put the lindseed oil/turpentine/jap dry mixture for a sealer.

Hi Warren:
It`s a long list of compliments you`ve got with your dragon.
Nobody found a flaw on it, but to me, there is something a do not like about it at all : that`s I cannot get to see it in person ! It`s beautyful man,my congratulations and I go join the list too! Nelson.

Bob I did not forget about you, I think I worked on and off for about five weeks. I was also making some other pieces for the other daughters. Theirs got completed on time, the dragon got delivered about a week after Christmas.
If you are curious here are the other two items. Each one was a little different in style.
The wall treetreecandleholdercandleholdertree is six foot and copper and brass. The candle holder is copper, brass and bronze about 30 inches.
