New Sculpture 2009- Boskarin: The Istrian Ox

New Sculpture 2009- Boskarin: The Istrian Ox

Here's a piece that arose from the scrap bin of plasma cut shards...Walter claimed it for himself....SteelyJan
FYI: That base is a solid piece of steel...I don't even know how I acquired it...but it works!!!

Looks Cool

Hi Jan,
Looks pretty Cool.
I think it has a unique prehistoric look.
Which I might add is very popular in the Southwest look out here in Phoenix.
I like how you did the horns.
I wasn't sure about the Body but it really works well.
All I can say is that it would sell very well out here.
Nice Job!!!

Chuck

Some Blacksmithingish techniques...

Thanks Chuck....Can't sell it because Walter claimed it as he is a Tauras...but then we made it into an Isrian Ox which he had on his farm as a child. Three people already wanted it. The body was a left over from some plasma cutting job but the horns...ah...that's a different story. I started with some rounded stock ...torch heat it and banged into shape. That was a totally satisfying experience. I must get a forge I like banging.....Then used the snips to pull them and twist them.
I'm happy and so is Walter! SteelyJan

Horns

SteelyJan,
Okay you can call it an ox. Even an Istrian Ox. But I think you got the horns going the wrong direction. Sorry.

Actually....

These oxen's horns tilt backwards...Walter was making me redo it over and over until I got it right.....

Hi Janet, I like it a lot.

Hi Janet, I like it a lot. The big body/chest gives the piece a lot of character and the primitive feel makes it very eccentric. This is another one of your sculptures that I would like to see on a grand scale.

Me bad

Sorry Janet, I took a quick look in my cattle and cow book and I could not see them correctly.

Hi Jan, Well, I`m not going

Hi Jan,
Well, I`m not going to question the horns direction, not to say Warren is wrong either! The neat thing about art, is that you can place things up side down, purposely or mistakenly and the sculpture may turn out great, and in some cases a disaster. No don`t be scare Jan, in this case, even if the horns are backwards, those long curves go so well with the body flow, that I dare to say that placing the horns the right way may screw up the look of this piece. This might be an animals sculpture inspired year! Moti`s Elephant, Dong`s ox, and now Janet`s ox, who`s coming next? What a great start! To me Jan, this is one of your best! I love to see when you sort of free yourself of mechanical patterns. Excuse me the criticism, I mean the best, but could be off the wall too... Nelson.

No offense taken!!!

these are the pieces that free my soul....when I can just grab a shard of something from a past project and transmute it into something new... they just evolve on their own accord....I don't know where they come from...it just happens....
It's pure joy!!! ( that doesn't always pay the bills but it feels good.) Thanks nelson...by the way I love your double doors!!! Didn't post a comment before! SteelyJan
