Saying Hello, and looking for a place to Post.

Hi,everyone.
What a great assembly of Artists and Craftsmen.I'm a 60 something Ex-Pat,Originaly from California..now living in the Highlands of Panama. The Computer is one of the ways in which I view the World. And I was glad to find Art Metal.I live in somewhat of a Vacume here in my small Town(Volcan).
Just getting set up,searching high and low for everything Shop-wise.Got an Anvil up to my Place, built a Forge,But getting a Scrap Pile together is next to impossible. All metal gets instantly Re-cycled in these Poor Countrys.Grab it before the Trucks get it.It's all going to CHINA to be made into REBAR!!Tons of OLD WROUGHT Iron. It's sad.
Enough for now.Ken

Welcome to ArtMetal, Ken! I

Welcome to ArtMetal, Ken!

I certainly sympathize with your plight as far as tools and materials go. I'm in pretty much the same boat here in the Virgin Islands, though I can get stuff shipped down from the States if I'm willing/able to stand the freight charges.

To give you some hope, in the past six or eight years I've managed to get a reasonably well-equipped blacksmith shop set up, complete with power hammer. Many of my tools are home made due to the expense and logistics of shipping things like power hammers, belt grinders, etc. If I can do it, I'm sure you can. I did find it necessary to have a couple of tons of new steel shipped down from Florida, but the ocean freight wasn't bad on that at all. Way cheaper (less than half) than trying to buy it from the one seller here.

If there's anything I can do to help out, let me know.
