Paula, actually the dynamic

Paula,
actually the dynamic effect does not show. The reason is that it needs either a white background, or clear light, or against the sky, which are virtually the same. Simple concept to apreciate this effect: dark sculpture needs clear backgroun and viceversa. I`ve learned this as I took pics of the same work against a white wall at home, and here installed. In other kind of work is not as important, but the difference in this type of kinetic sculpture is dramatic! Thanks, nelson.

Ah nelson my friend, really cool piece of art and interesting buildind in back. What is location. Jay

Hi Jay, I was afraid someone

Hi Jay,
I was afraid someone may ask where this fair is taking place. My fear is confirmed and got to tell you. This is in South America (VENEZUELA), a beautiful and poor rich country now run by an embarrassing mad man. How embarrassing having someone like him represent us... this a sad topic! He`s the latin vertion of S. Hussein from Irak. Back to art. Thanks Jay.

Nice work Nelson! I'm sure

Nice work Nelson! I'm sure the effect you were going for might have been heightened with a lighter background, but the piece still has lots of motion. I like it a lot.

Jake, this is not really and

Jake,
this is not really and outdoors sculpture due to the materials used: mild steel, acrilic resin, etc. Nothing thought for weather. In fact is was made for interior and have a more refined base, but it`ll only be out 5 days, trying to catch eyes, and hopefully some work. God know`s!
Thanks. nelson.

Hey Jay, no kidding, swear

Hey Jay,
no kidding, swear God the idea of moving far away, is being tumbling in my head for a good while. Either to Spain where my folks are from, or to U.S. where I live, studied and work for over six years. Unfortunately, there are strong family ties as well other type.Back then I had a room mate from Eugene, Oregon.Brad Vihel a grape farmer at heart, and an excellent earthy person; say hi to him if you see him! Till I read any about your BIG MAMA twisting monster, I was gonna ask you to post some picks of that thing. I understand, and I would never have actual work for it except twisting "somebody`s" neck LOL. Sounded terrible huh. Congratulations, for your creativeness in making machines like that one. You inspired me with your Twist and Shout.

I like it Nelson.. Makes me

I like it Nelson.. Makes me want to walk around it to see how its appearance changes. Did you make the concrete (?) base too?

Peter

NELSON's picture

Hi Peter, You hit the nail

Hi Peter,
You hit the nail on the sweet spot! The beauty of this kind of work is exactly observing how the piece in front of your eyes, changes shapes so dramatically. Not to mention the dynamics. I made the concrete base. It takes a bit time, but making it is simpler that most people imagen. Basic squeleton using rebar, tie wire mesh on, paste cement to fill mesh spaces and make a basic crust, go next day with another layer as thich as it`ll hold up (1/2-3/4" or more) depending on expertise and type of concrete mix and additives you may add, Before the second thick layer dries hard, carved stone shapes you like, next and not necessarily last, you may give a last fine pasting as make up to refine the coarse texture and shapes resulting from carving. On the last pasting as the previous one, you may ad oxides for coloring. The main thing is this, you can do anything with cement, just try and find the textures, colors, shapes, and ways of doing it you like! Peter, did you know there`s even jewlery made with cement... amazing! If you like this stuff, check what I call Machu Pichu style pedestal. Actually, a grey cement color would have been more in agreement with that style. Check out the posted image. Nelson.
