Hi Chuck: I`ve been doing figurative sculpture for the most part, but I`ve feeling sort of tired of it, caged into something that restricted me creatively, so I am switching into more abstract shapes... along with this my favorite are metalized acrylic colors which go well with dynamic, say kinetic sculpture. Thank you so much. nelson. » reply Hey Nelson, I like this

Jamie, its made out of steel plate. Some texture using plaster was aded to help play with different depths, colores and tones. Frankly, the greens, purples and blues seem to go well with the design. It all started as an experiement, an idea I`ve had in mind for a long time, but never dare to try. I guess all in due time huh! Thanks and glad you like too. Nelson. » reply I honestly thought it was

I honestly thought it was made of copper, and finished off with a patina...I love the what you did. I think the name fits well! My mind went to the depths of the ocean as soon as I saw it. I've seen documentaries on Atlantis, and I can only imagine beauty, and riches...thanks for taking me there with this piece! Cheers, Jamie Santellano » reply Jamie, thank you for being

It`s funny, when I started this piece I did not have the slightest idea what it`d be like. Just a triangular shape and a moving effect is all I had in mind. The piece was ocean fated, because it started to look like a sail, but a good friend of mine and a good art critic, after I`d asked him what it looked like to him, his impression was that it looked like a fish. Gee, it had no tail, fins and other detailed features, but I took the idea, and went from a sail shape sculpture to a sea creature. In the latter part of the process, sea reefs where definetely in mind. The sail idea though, as well as other sea related forms are hopping up and down in my head, so it`ll be just a matter of time... by the way, did you name the sculpture Jamie thought it looked like E.Man? There`s something I love about that sculpture. Amazing what you could make with those randomly formed pieces when you pick`em up and join`em creatively. Awesome results. If you have a source of that melt material, take advantage of it when you`re inspired...just a personal view Jason. This art thing is very subjective. Thanks Jason. Frank, I`m very pleased to having found a style that fits me, that I like, and of course that you guys like, because the artist should first of all enjoy what he does. This joy I experienced discovering things is multiply many fold when the viewer enjoys it too. Don`t want to think of this as an ego trip, which is an enemy man has to fight constantly, no, it`s a genuine joy, at heart, in the soul, I`m sure you understand me.On the other hand, we make pieces that some deslike too, and that`s fine. When you think about it there`s no such thing as good or bad, just a view of convinience at the time. Sometime back, as a farmer, I had some neighbors that so often they`d sneak into the field and steel the crops. I could have killed some of them. Hated what was taking place and asked God to ease me a way out. Had to be patient, and finally sold the farm, which whether I got robbed or not, the business was very marginal, and caused more worries than profit and joy anyway. So today, I feel thankful to those that did much so I`d considerd hanging up my gloves, to stop doing something that I like much. Ain`t easy to make a living on artwork, you know it, but it so rewarding spiritually speaking... Thanks Frank. Saw your natives with the rust patina on and that`s what the needed, but you didn`t seem quite satisfy... that`s the artist! Thanks Frank. nelson. » reply Frank, you`re hitting the

Frank, you`re hitting the nail right too, pattern, color and movement are important aspects of this piece to me. It was a real joy working on it, and that joy multiplies many fold as I find you guys enjoy it too. Now, let`s not forget about those who `dislike it.That`s all right too, and like the dog-tied-to-death artist, there no good and bad, it`s just a matter of personal convinience.Depending on the contest of time, space, and mind state, something may appear nice or uggly, good or bad. This joy, is not a ego trip type of feeling, but rather a heart and soul felt experience brought out, more as a spiritual need than anything else. At times, we may be vibrating at the same frequency... A little bit of cheap philosophy along art? » reply atlantis

Nelson, what I really like about this piece is it's timelessness ... if you came across it in the old museum in Athens where there are many artifacts that have been recued from the sea you would not think it out of place .. and I suspect that someone 2,000 years ago could relate to its symbolism ...well done ! » reply Giusseppe, never thought

Giusseppe, never thought about that. Are you from Italy? Guess that aspect is familiar to you, as you may live by the Mediterranean Sea. Definetely,I agree with your view, and your comment took me back to a Universal History of Art class in high school... it`s great to get feed back nourishing one`s view. To realize there`s more than what we have seen it`s also a great joy. Thanks for sharing your enlightening view.Nelson. » reply |
