Thanks Paula and Frank. The leaves, petals, and vegetation at the bottom, were forged in 1/8"-3/16"mild steel plate. The vase is 1mm sheet, and the look and color I accomplished it with a rather primitive but great tecnique: get copper paint and prepared 3 basic tones. One would be the pure Cu color, another a dark version adding some black, and one should be an intermediate tone. I guess this is called degrading of colors in art? Anyhow, now get your bare fingers and use them as brushes placing and mixing those 3 basic colors where you like (check natural light and shade areas to highlight only former with brighter tones). As you finger paint, you`ll be mixing them and get a nice flow of tones similar to what happens to a polished Cu piece after a week.Use circular motion mainly and wet your fingers in thinner once in a while to avoid paste up and drag marks. Hum, got to think about that huh!The nice thing is that you can have a finish that will remain at a stage you like(as opossed to real copper),and let me tell it`s neat!nelson » reply finger painting works best

You`re right Paula, who needs a brush,my hands are all cut up,callused, wrinkled and you name it!not exactly office hands, but surgery gloves may work.In difficult places you`ll still need a little brush to help you along the way.I`m starting soon to work with real copper, must admit it gives some unbeatable tones. I did a littl leaf.Wow, my first little copper work.Hey,I do really love art.I`m not bragging.Love to see all the guys art. It`s a joy to enjoy! » reply birds of a feather? ya, my

Great work Nelson. The roses look very realistic and the finish very nice, it looks like actual copper. To think it was accomplished by finger painting is even better. Jake » reply |

Roses Look Right
Hi Nelson,
I like this piece a lot, but the roses really look good to me.I've seen tons of metal roses, but yours look right.
