FLORA

FLORA

Paula you were curious about the coloring of roses.Did you get to read the post where I explained the process?I was tinkering with the computer imaging, and guess I erased it.Let me know. Anyhow, here`s a "clean" pic of roses, which is actually my first sculpture and its name is FLORA.

Thanks Grizz! The reason I

Thanks Grizz! The reason I posted the same work twice is because I wasn`t too happy with the rather dull look of the same work showed on fridays post as ROSES. I thought I had to do something about it.So I rigged up a picstable, repainted a wall outdoors, and waited for light and shade spots to dissapeared(had to wait till 6:00p,but early morning should be best),and took my best pics yet. This realization came to mind from observing what happens to some of us;namely,it ain`t fair that after working so hard to achieve nice pieces of art, when it comes to taking pics and showing them, the sculpture instead of being enhanced, becomes dull and quality diminished in a work that might be excellent in real.Nevertheless, some gallerie guys, and whoever, only get to see what we show on the screen, or a pic on paper! So I realized the importance of a suitable background, and manipulating the light a bit.Usually happens,we run get a table that more or less suits the height, put it against the nearest wall, and off we go!We`re much into production, but promotion isn`t less important. In all, I invite you to check out Flora and compair it with the pic on ROSES of friday. It`s the same work,I only took off the funky piece of wood it had as double base.I do hope this helps some of you too, because it`s help a lot! Will post PICS TABLE made to take pics.Nelson

Paula and Rob thanks. Rob

Paula and Rob thanks. Rob try this if you will: get a rose petal and draw the siluet, then cut 1/8"-3/16 plate in squares or rectangles that closer resemble the petal shape, remembering different sizes, petals aren`t all equal.Weld a piece of 1/8" about a strech long to a corner of plates so you can turn it around as you heat and forge till it looks like a petal.Got to weld all the plates with that sort of "handle" you know.Cut the handle and tack the petal on a pointed 1/4"-3/8" rod, heat the petal and wrap it around that point which is the rose center tip, and just keep on tacking, overlaping and wrapping till you get a rose. There are many tricks that would take me too long to explain, but you`ll be realizing as you go along. At the end you may heat the petals one by one from center out to open them,bla,bla,bla... and you got your rose!Don`t try coping anybodie`s roses, your`s will be unique looking, and that`s nice.Different folks, different strokes.Hope it helps, and please show us when you get your first flower.Nelson.
