My Koi Fish

My Koi Fish

I'm new here, so Hello!!! I love seeing everyones work! Its All So great!

Here's my latest project. Its 18 gauge sheet, with a 3/16 rod skeleton supporting it. Each element bolts to that skeleton behind the work. (I like to paint my work in auto paint, so it has to be able to separate to get great coverage) Lets see.. used a mig, e wheel, planisher, bead roller, band saw, grinders, two setting D/A sander, and hand drill.

I'm planning on putting a light mix of color changing pearl that flops the blue, green, yellow flop. Similar or maybe even the paint used on the 96 Cobras. I do auto body full time Art... whenever I get the chance. I have a bunch of different projects but this is probably my favorite right now.

My buddy was building my website but just had a baby and hasn't had any time to finish it. Its not even close to what it will be. When its done its a full flash site.

If you click the thumbnails on this page, it "should" take you to my photobucket gallery. Check it out, let me know what ya think.

And I must say I'm very impressed by your work!! I've always been intrigued by railing work, gate and the like. Do you get to work full time at the studio??

Hi Dae, Welcome to the

Hi Dae,
Welcome to the Artmetal family. Your koi fish is my favorite. I too like to use automotive paint on some sculptures that call for bright happy tones you know. At the time I have a personal fish proyect in mind, so your work is very inspiring and will probably be the kick to get going with my fish. keep posting, we`ll enjoy watching your work. nelson.

Thank you so much!

Hey Thank You Nelson, That means alot!
Sorry to take so long to get back at ya. I've always been around auto paint, love the process and finish. House of Kolor has so many cool paints that you just wanna make something, just to have a reason to use the paint. I've seen video of the owner Kosmoski spraying back in the 60's and 70's no mask, no booth.. just sprayin away. Their metallics rival the look of the real thing. Also ALSA Corp has some pretty exciting new applications in paint. Like Chrome paint that looks like real chrome!
I look forward to seeing your Fish project!

Sheet Metal

Hi Dave, I'm a fng as well. That's a military term, use your imagination...the ng is new guy. I really like your sheet metal work. I wish I had worked in a body shop when I was (finding myself) many years ago as it sure would come in handy. I do mostly found object sculpture and need to find specific shapes. I'm trying to learn how to fabricate the hard to find shapes from sheet. I find it frustrating and sometimes painful. Your work reflects skill, talent and a good knowledge of sheet metal tools. Your work also reflects a passion for football and choppers. I look foward to seeing more of your work. At some point I'll master the art of posting. Though I enjoy researching metalergy I find struggling in the help box to achedemic as my spelling reflects and would much rather be shoppin (in the shop not at the mall)!
Happy Hollidays

Hey Thanks fellow FNG

For me I basiclly had great instruction on how to weld and weld right, and from there just figure out what tool would work best for the project. Then buy or build the tool and learn it that way, and always learn all the ways it can hurt you before you start!! I had some basic training in sheetmetal at Wyo Tech, so basic all I really learned was what each tool could do. Once you master oxy acetalene, and or mig. The hard parts over. The rest is just praciticing with the tool.
I get stuck not having the time to do more in the studio. My next project isn't art at all.. Its a 67 Chevelle.. but I'll show off some of the metal work I'll be doing to them poor quarters.

Nice meetin ya, look forward to your posts

Dave
