I haven't posted in a while but here is one. This is for a fund raiser (another free piece) for the High Museum in Atlanta. The exhibit opening around the event is titled "Leonardo's contribution to sculpture", so I decided to do a horse. A departure for me but I think it turned out OK. They were pleased and placed a pretty good opening bid on it. We'll see how it goes.

Wow, I really like the sculpture. Creating animals seems very difficult to me, but you've done it perfectly and it indeed reminds me of Leonardo's horse.

Mele,
Wow that is a different direction for you, very nice.
I like the pose and how you worked the sections of metal together to give it a nice flow.

Really an excellent piece,

Really an excellent piece, Mele! I like the way you defined some aspects and left others vague - leaves the viewer free to add their personal touch. I'd love to be able to do that as well as you have.

I have been so envious of

I have been so envious of the things people have posted that start with an armature. I have never done that before and it was really hard I thought. I had a hard time seeing how to place the basic form without the reference of the body shape. It was a huge learning experience and turned out to be pretty fun.
Maybe someone would post a basic lesson sometime on the principles in armature making.
Thanks,Mele

I find that most of the time

I find that most of the time the armature gets in the way. Then you have to be so precise with the armature because hard to reshape if you find you want to change the flow of the piece some. Or if you need to tweak a little with a hammer over a stake hard to do over an armature. I just free build them, starting at some spot that looks logical and going on from there keeping all of the proportions in my mind.
