Hands On

Hands On

So I have been busy for a few weeks. Finally got the tree planted for the city of Avondale AZ.

The leaves are metal hands traced from the people of Avondale. The tree is 1 inch "tree bark" solid rod. 207 hands powdercoated a golden color. The foundation is 5 foot round by 6 inchs thick with a center plug 36 by 36 by 48 deep. The tree weighs in around 600lbs.

Only took 4 of us about 5 hours to unload (with the help of a crane) and install. The leaves were attached with 1/16 cable and sewages.

More photos on my site. Just look for "Hands On" photo gallery

Hi Kevin, I hope my comment

Hi Kevin,
I hope my comment don`t make the silly list,LOL. Do the hands have a particular mark, or initial that identifies the person they belong? Man that`s a neat, and unique idea! At first it appeared spooky, but it grew on me. I do hope you got a pair of yours hanging in there too Kevin, I would not let that oportunity pass. Congratulations. Nelson.

Hi Nelson. No the hands do

Hi Nelson.

No the hands do not have any markings on them. I didn't want anyone climbing the tree to get "their" hand to take home. Also with the lowest branch being about 9 feet up the 1/4 inch stamp set I have would have been too small to read.

The city is suppose to put a plaque up with everyones name on it.

I am glad it is growing on you, I still think it is a little spooky. Would love to take some photos under a full moon!

And no I don't think your comment silly at all. I have come to grips with this whole piece a long time ago. My finger has been on the pulse of this job for 5 months now. I have been able to wrap my hands around it and point to all the ups and downs of the job. The jokes around the site when I installed were worse than these.

Hi Kevin,
Another wonderful concept and Design.
I don't no about Spooky, I was thinkng more along the lines of Cool another means of Shade.
Those of us who live in Desert know what I mean.
I'll have to make a trip to Avondale to check it out.
Great job on a job well done!!

Thanks Chuck. Was great

Thanks Chuck.

Was great seeing you both at your show. The shade in AZ is always a big hit. Not sure how much this one will provide. May have to start a progressive diner tour of my work some evening.
