Sculpture Gallery | welded steel Here is a little tree I have been working on. Stands 14ft tall and a crown of about 9 to 10 ft. The trunk and branches are 1 inch solid tree bark rod. The leaves (all 200 of them) are hands cut out of 16ga steel and shaped in the air shaper. Should weigh in about 650 to 700 lbs. The hands are off to the powdercoater and the trunk is almost done. Hope to install in the first half of April. Hi Paula I was mid drink

Oh Yeah. 200 leaves/hands shapes from the people of the town. They traced out their hands and I cut steel ones out. The hands are at the powdercoater. I should have them back in a week or so and will hang them up one more time to make sure everything is correct. Yes I will be taking and posting photos.... » reply sounds like a really neat

Great piece, Kevin!!! I have been talking with a client about a 12' tree with stained glass leaves. I have nightmares thinking about moving it. How are you going to move this one? Lin » reply Hi Lin, Thanks. Moving this

Hi Lin, Thanks. Moving this will be a lot of fun. I am going to heat up the branches where ever needed to fold up the tree to trailer size. I will use the post lift pick up the tree and get it loaded. Once on site I will need a crane to lift it to the spot.(Wahoo!!!!!! my first crane piece) Break out the rose bud and shape the branches back to shape. Install the hands as I bend the branches back to shape with 1/16 cable and swages. (just so they don't walk off in the night) Stand back, take a look and Party On. I will post a video on my site of most of this move. Along with photos of course. » reply Hi kevin, Spooky tree man,

Hi Nelson Thanks for the comments. Afraid I can't take credit for the hands. That was the idea of the art counsel. They wanted something to get the public involved. 200 people stopped by and traced out their hands. I cut them out of 16ga steel. The hands at the base of the truck represents the past, the future (hands at the top of the trunk) and the present (the hands for leaves). Yeah, I do agree with you about the spooky factor. At night with a full moon and slight breeze it should look and sound real cool. » reply |
