Bigger Bugs on this side of the ocean/ Spider, I will see your bug and raise you one!!!!

Here are some of my bugs. Great minds think alike. Hollow balls and the big one is 34 inchs tall. The head is 8 inchs in dia.

Realy like your bigger bug the paint job is amazing, I believe I can see you taking the photo in the reflection on it head. At this stage I donot have anything as big as your bug however will include the 16 kg Redback Spider made from solid metal. Got you there!!

Ok Ok you got me on poundage. (for now!) The paint was done at a local powdercoater. Involved a hot oven and a cold case!

Good to see you back from work and playing like the rest of us. Working! I mean working.

Hi kevin, I live near a lake. The climate is muggy, hi tems and humidity most of the year. Perfect conditions for mosquitos. There are times you can see them darken walls by the numbers. That said, I wanna make a mosquito sculpture, the own the place and deserve some recognition too... gee,don`t know whether is them or bats so abundant here too. Guess mosquitos have larger populations so the latter can feed on them too. Do you know a process to copper coat steel, electrolitically I guess? let me know if you find out. Thanks . nelson.

Copper coated steel

Hey Nelson,

I do have a source to copper coat steel. Check out the guys at www.ronyoungpatina.com

I have seen Ron take a hunk of plastic rain gutter and turn it in to an old copper gutter with greens/blues and what not. I will say I have not had much luck with the coppercoating on steel here in Phx. It is just to dry here for it to work. But where you are it should work just fine.

I have called them with the "Oh God, what do I do now" call and they have always been very helpful. Their number is 1-800-728-5787.

Hope this helps. Can't wait (but I guess I/we will) to see what you are doing.

Let the bug wars commence!

Heres a couple of my creepy-crawlies to add to the mix. My ants are only about 13 inches long and weigh around 8lbs. The spider is light and about 4 feet across. You can see that Michael and I have been accessing similar scrap supplies. Kevin, I have a similar caterpillar to yours, only in solid balls(rust finish), a little smaller and with horse shoes cut in half as legs....I'll try and find the pic. Love the legs on yours. Nelson....I like the idea of a giant mozzie....could be a fun little project. Its been a couple of years since I did some creepy-crawlies....they were fun and my customers keep asking for more. Yes, I've made some "web" out of woven stainless steel, but just need to sell the concept to someone so I can set the web up between some trees in a garden. I have plans to do another one with a coloured glass abdomen. I am slowly setting up a small (30m x 40 metres) sculpture park outside my workshop, so maybe I can do something in there...
