Mobius

Hi everyone

This piece is made out of 16ga weathering steel and welded with LA-75 wire to help hide the seams.

I did use "cad" for the design work on this so I had a good 3d image to show the customer before hand.

After getting approval I made a subframe to have something to shape the metal to. Using a slip roller, english wheel, sandbag and a planshing hammer (with timeout to pound my head on the wall screaming "Why Why Why") I would cleco the pieces to the frame untill I had the fit and shape I wanted. The "back" came first than the sides, top and bottom. Once that much welded I could take out the frame (it is hollow) and do the finish work on the wheel and hammer.

Then make the "front" and do the finish work on it also. Before welding it togeather I installed two bearings inside so the piece will move in the wind.

The 9 inch dia. 1/2 plate as the base let the piece stand on its own without being bolted down. (in the studio)

For installation it was bolted to a concrete base on the hillock it sits on.

Where Torsonal Twist is 6 feet tall, this piece is only 34 inchs by 20 by 4ish. It weights in at a whopping 37 pounds. Some of my work has topped 2100lbs.

another interesting piece,

another interesting piece, Kevin. Do you have any photos from different angles. It seems that this angle may not put the piece in it's BEST light :)
I like the kinetic aspect, great idea, IMO. Ohhhhh a lil video of it in motion would ROCK.

hmmmmmm seems a lil plain

hmmmmmm seems a lil plain for Paley. No offense.....just don't see that. Just goes to show...PaleyISH is in the eye of the beholder, Jim. :) DID it remind you of a specific piece of Paley's?

Hi Guy

nothing specific. I spent several months in Rochester last year... appreciated his work as I was in the town ... the gig I was working was so bad I got inspired to do something else... and I'd been thinking about metal art for about 20 years..... so,.... some big pushes and some little pushes...
