OMG

OMG

........ the mast is a treasure I dug out of a dumpster - a very long pry bar. It was bent like a banana but straightened out well. The disk on top is solid brass about 5/16 " thick and maybe 7.5 " in diameter.

The piece is 6' 5" tall, the photo angle makes it look a little taller.

Pry Bar Piece...

Very nice Piece there JIM !

How did you go about attaching the bottom to the pry bar ? Did you braze the BRASS disc to the top of the bar ?

Cheers,

Thx..

Hi Joe,

mounting to the base involved welding a small ( 4" * 3/8" ) disk to the bottom of the pry bar ( I'd whacked it off square with a chop saw). The disk has three holes thru which 3/8" bolts secure it to the base. The base is solid, giving enough mass to keep the work stable if placed on a hard surface. If on a soft surface, spikes can be driven thru holes in the flange to help keep the work stable. The three holes / bolts in the mounting system allow fine tuning of keeping the spire square to the rest of the world.

The top has a slot cut into the spire. Small bolt runs into the brass disk - it can be removed. The base, of course, can be removed.

The prybar was pretty bent ( like a banana is bent) when I got it. Some heat and hammering straightened it out, tho it's still a little bent.

The piece is approximately 78" tall and weighs 75 lbs.
