Small Scale Sculpture Continued....

here's another small scale sculpture I made and sold soon after. My son took this picture and I love it because it gives the appearance of a large scale piece. All of these pieces are truely maquettes for what could be large scale work. I'd really like to do an outdoor piece. Soon!! Janet

Moe Bigga

Hi Janet,
Nice.I really think you should make a moe bigga one. Maybe control the pipe lengths so that when the wind passes through it plays a chord.Your stirring my gray matter, thanks...

You read my mind!

Hi Frank,

This is funny because years ( actually eons) ago I had designed a piece for a sculpture park called "The Sound Within" a series of pipes angled cut in a spiral which would create sound. It never came to pass. When I saw this picture my son took I realised how much it resembled that piece. And now you said it!I think in order to get the tubing to create different sounds there has to be a structure within the tubing.(like any wind instrument) Any
ideas on that out there???? Janet R.

Sound

Hi Janet -
I know that when I blow across the top of a beer bottle, it makes sound, and if the bottle is closer to empty, the sound is lower pitched. Gotta try that some more this weekend ...

Research can be fun.

making a sound

Janet,
Like the doodles, it looks like you're having fun doing Them concept of quick sketch has somehow been missing in most 3d work. . This may be a way to keep fresh and open to new relationships. Good ideas have a way of coming back. sound within hmmm. Somethings is going to have to vibrate you're right. Here's a new twist. Bose speakers when taken apart will reveal themselves to be a long tube.
Lots of twists but basicaly a tube. They act much the same way a megaphone does. Suppose that the sound you wanted was the sound of a drop of water hitting a pool of water. If this happened below your tubes the sound might be amplified.
In a rain such a piece might be able to sing in celebration.Experiment, Brad
