Sculpture Gallery This piece is dedicated to Skipper, my brother-in-law who we lost in Iraq, and his wife Diana. The last email Skipper sent to Diana contained the following quote "Spartan woman of Greece would tell their husbands before going to battle, to come home with their shields or on them." Skipper, the brave warrior that he was, returned on his shield, for as Skipper would say "cowardice is not a Spartan virtue. We love and miss you Skip, J.R. Thank you much, Rick, thank

Rob, First, thank you for your condolences. Skip was like a brother to me. What I was thinking and feeling is what inspired me to make this piece. Someone recently told me that I am like a sponge when it comes to my art... that I absorb other's visions and passions, and then turn them into my own interpretations. I'm still having a hard time with internal motivation and creativity. I would work more if I could think of what to do. Ayn Rand says: "It is an artist's sense of life that controls and integrates his work, directing the innumerable choices he has to make, from the choice of subject to the subtlest details of style." I know subject matter is all around me, I'm just not seeing it. Thanks again, J.R. » reply Heart Felt
