Thanks Rob, it's one of my

Thanks Rob, it's one of my favorites too!

The wing is 18G sheet metal, torch cut, then rods welded in place as the wing skeleton. I then gave the wing a little shape using a shot sack and large mallet. The bat has a 4' wingspan.

Vampire Bat

Speedskater, thanks for the compliment. I have not been to Artmetal in a while and was surprised to see someone commenting on one of my pieces. To answer your question, this was a time consuming piece (about 100 hours). I traded the bat for $2k in auto body work (at Bat Body Werks, Spring, TX). I am presently studio-less, as I am in the middle of building our new home in Austin.

PS: Hi to the Artmetal gang... I miss you guys!!!

Vampire Bat

Speedskater,

Wow, I've been away for a while and was surprised to see someone commenting on one of my pieces. Thank you for your kind words! This piece was very time consuming (100 hrs), and was actually a commission. I traded it for $2k in auto body work. The owner of Bat Body Werx (Spring, TX) is really into bats. He eventually painted it in a sort of translucent pearl purple... it looks really cool!

Thanks again, J.R.

Amigo Tamayo, pretty good Bamp !

See you`re back here,me too. Not much into sculpture myself lately. Hope to get my hands on some metal in a creative manner. For the time work for bread will suffice. Take care, and keep up the metal work too... ciao.
