Hi Frank, I'm a new guy and

Hi Frank, I'm a new guy and am feeling my way around the site. It's a wonderful site to share info and see the works by others. I was attracted to your work particularly the tableware eagle. I have been collecting spoons for awhile as I hope to do a large American Shad using spoons for scales. Early on Va. rivers teemed with American Shad and it was the primary industry during colonial days but levies stopped the migration upriver and now they are a protected species. Did you tig that eagle as it was so clean. I use a flux cored mig which is messy. Plus I put a magnet on anything I pick up cause some tableware has no magnetic field. Thanks

Welcome

Hi Gimperfi,
Wow, I forgot about that piece. With the eagle made from spoons, I welded things together with a MIG welder. The armature is mild steel. If I possessed a TIG welder I would have made the armature from stainless and tigged everything. Most of the welds are covered by the next layer of spoons. That helped disguise the messy welds, but you have to start from the tail and work your way forward. The flux core system seems to be really messy compared to MIG though.Good luck with your Chad sculpture.Welcome aboard,Gimperfi...
Peace,eh?
