Hello, I'm Frank Castiglione I just ran into this site and liked what I saw, so I joined. Sorry if I'm not following protocal. Shown is my latest work in progress. The medium is .032" mild steel and 16 penny nails.I'm MIG welding it with .023 wire.Shaping sheet metal is my prefered method of expression.

Shaping Sheet Metal

Hi Jim,
I am not sure where to place a "how to" photo series. If you would click this http://allshops.org/cgi-bin/community/click.cgi?id=117116836611723&zone=1&1172594640
You will come to an album I have in the Metalshapers site.It has some shaping hints.Looking further in this site you will find albums devoted to illustrating shrinking and stretching methods, and machines to shape, form and planish sheet metal. I personally utilize objects found for a tool source, but venture further from the cave as need presents itself.
If the hyperlink is nonfunctional just google metalshapers.
I hope this is helpful. The finish on Professor Drago is wire brushed and raw. I need to apply some kind of protecting coating. Any hints?
Frank

Finishes are a real tough issue.

It is funny though the last finish I tried people liked and it was uber simple.
First I spray cannned the work with flat black and then I wire brused most of it off. Some paint was left behind and it gave the metal a nice metallic look. Lastly I rubbed some furniture wax on it.

Frank
I went to the link, some really nice copper flowers there. I really like some of your innovative ideas to shape the copper, the groove in the wood and beating a rod of steel down to impress the copper and the bolt head as an anvil I really like. Thanks for sharing, I imagine the Frankenframe is a english wheel.

Hi Chris,
Frankenframe is still waiting to be made into a flypress louver machine. I did make an English wheel using a different frame with a larger throat, but never made an album.I purchased my rollers from Kerry Pinkerton, who graciously showed me how to construct the adjuster.I'm glad you enjoyed my simplistic shaping tools.None are original ideas of mine though, just applications of what I observe.
