Well, it's not the sort of thing that I usually get too excited about, but I like where it seems to be going so far. It kind of evokes an image of a Kokopelli dancer to my Southwest-raised eye. Movement happening there. I'll be interested to watch the progress of this piece, Chuck. We just gotta get you into heating and beating the metal with hammers and get you on the path to perdition trough forging. (grin) ![]() Hi Rich, Thanks for your

Great piece, Chuck. It kind of reminds me of lightning coming through the clouds during the monsoon storms we get here in AZ. I like Jan's idea of something round, maybe a sphere somewhere? But I also love it the way it is. ![]() 2D vs 3D

Chuck, I kind of agree with Enrique that more of a 2D shape. If you turned it 90 degree clock wise and took a pic would you get the same effect? It does kind of look like lighting bolt. What always surprises me of you, that you always have some name for the piece........before it is done, hey me too sometimes but I usually wait tell done. So are you going to let it rust, put on some texture, cut in some texture or paint? Being it abstract some brilliant color, candy apple lacquers or something. www Metalrecipes -- heat and beat to the desired shape, repeat as necessary. ![]() Hey Warren, Hope all is well

Hi Chuck, first off congrats on the progress, you seem to be attacking your sculpture creations with a lot of gusto and passion which is good. I don't really have too many things to say about your piece yet, i'd rather wait until your finished, but I'll add a few comments. As for the 2D vs 3D, if your original concept/goal was 2D then great There is a lot of sculpture out there that is basically in one plane, I guess I'd just suggest to make sure it has some character. For this piece an easy way to have added a little depth would have been to overlap the two "bolts" instead of intersecting them. Each one could have been fabricated separately and then welded together at the end, however the art should always be a reflection of your purpose and if that calls for 2D then make it 2D. I don't mind the name, it reminds me of stormy weather which usually contains lightening. Was lightening the inspiration? It's difficult to comment on a piece of art without knowing it's inspiration or purpose, so in the future I might suggest adding some of that info. It doesn't have to be detailed just an idea of where you were coming from. For example if this was based on lightning I might like it, if it was based on cacti(sp?) I might think or suggest something different. What are your plans for finishing the piece? I look forward to seeing it develop, keep up the good work. HI Jake, I agree with you it does look like lighting that's why I named it what i did. As far as the finish, boy I'm just not sure? In the future I'll try and be more specific about my inspiration. Sometimes the work just flows from me and it is hard for me to put into words. Keep Warm..... Chuck |

Very interesting form with this new sculpture Chuck. I am wondering about the title "Tempest" though. I looked it up on Wikipedia and they have some interesting comments about it. What if you were to use the "Red/Black" color somehow? ie; TEMPEST standards require "RED/BLACK separation." I also wanted to mention that it may be more interesting if you try working with the third dimension with your forms. Right now it looks more 2D, even though you do have a depth perception.
Anyway, I like what you are doing. Seems you are going into the next level of artistic expression. Congratulations!
