Pappa Hero

Pappa Hero

Yes, I'm a NOOB - 2 hours after creating my account I received an email. My sculpture was accepted into an art show in Savannah, GA. The American Society of Aviation Artist accepted my "Pappa Hero" into the Mighty Eighth Air Force Heritage Museum. I have only started entering this type art shows this past year, this was my first acceptance. This piece consists of 3/8" and 1/4" plate, layered and beaded for a textured look. This piece is from a photograph taken of my grandfather in 1945. It is scaled just like the photograph. I'm guessing the sculpture, without the tripod, weights about 60 pounds, the tripod weighs about 20. Heavy and overdone.

Heavy? Perhaps, though

Heavy? Perhaps, though that's sort of relative.

Overdone? Not at all, I don't think. I think that piece is done just right. Somewhat ominous, yet I get a bit of a wistful feeling from the look in the eye. I have to say I think this is a pretty strong piece and I'm not at all surprised it was accepted. Good work!

Welcome to ArtMetal. I look forward to seeing more of your work.
