I like this piece and would suggest several reasons why it "works"and is complete as an artwork.
1.The overall composition is strong,unified,and concise.
It makes a complete statement.
2.The colors and texture play off each other well.This can't be taught.You either have this innate sense or you do not.Congratulations.
3.The juxtaposition of industrial and organic aspects provide a visual interest. To some extent that is what the current stylistic craze called STEAMPUNK is all about.You might want to do a Google search on the style for some inspiration.
4. The strongest aspect to your piece IMHO is that it is PERSONAL and gives us something AUTHENTIC from your being,experience and consciousness.Make all your art for YOU first,then for your patron or client...
