Latest cookware

Here is my latest piece of cookware. Steel, inside diameter 6 1/2" by 4 1/2" high (without the lid). I have been inspired by Janet to start trying to improve my patinas/finishes. This is my old standby (H2O2/salt) applied hot, finished with linseed oil and beeswax applied hot. Just did the finish a bit differently this time. Seasoned the inside with Crisco baked on at 375F for 3 hours. Time to eat.

Hi Rob:
Sorry I can say there are only two things I like about your cookware: the rose, and everything else! Great forge work. it has much caracter. Love the rose, the rope-like adornment and those leaves. To me, excellent! Nelson.

Very classy piece of cookware Rob! I'm inspired to try something similar and large that could go in a wood-fired pizza oven.

Hey Rob,
As usual I love your work. I posted something about your bit silverware also but it never went through. I really liked it as well. I should have sent all my bits to you instead if throwing them away. I always talk to my husband about your stuff and refer to you as my botanical buddy.

Very beautiful metal art Rob! The craftsmanship and design aesthetics are refined. Shows your skills as a blacksmith and metalworker are developing very nicely. I also like your patina very much. Kudos to you and this functional art!

Hi Rob, sorry for the late

Hi Rob, sorry for the late response, i've been trying to finish an install and it's been sucking up all of my time. I love this piece, especially the color and textures. How did you make the braided rope at the top? Great work. Have you tried cooking with it yet?

Thanks so much, Jake!
The braded rope is just 1/4" stock with a tight twist (I put one end in a drill and heat with a rose bud and use the drill to twist it). I then put a 3/8" stop block in my air hammer which gives me a very slight square to the twist. I did the same thing at the bottom using 3/8" stock and a 1/4" stop block.
Regarding cooking, I've only made bread pudding, but it came out great!

It just dawned on me that the piece obviously is heated to wax melting temps during cooking. Once the linseed oil and beeswax finish dries, is the wax bound up by the linseed oil? How come it doesn't melt during cooking?

Hi Rob,

I really like this piece! The surface almost looks like it's leather. You've done an amazing job. Looks a bit like chocolate as well. You must be very proud of your accomplishment.
Congrats on this beautiful piece.

Cheers,
